Governor Vic Slaughter, 2007-2008 - Biography
Born
and raised in Colorado, Vic and Kathie met in 1967 while
attending Western State College. They married in 1969 and have
two grown daughters. Jennifer lives in Alaska and Carrie resides
in Texas.
Vic's thirty six year career in telecommunications began in
Denver in 1969, which included twenty years in Alaska, and was
completed in Nevada where he retired in August of 2005. With
twenty two years of Military service, Vic spent 8 years in the
Marine Corp Reserve and retired from the Alaska National Guard.
He administered and was a participant in competitive shooting
programs for the Alaska National Guard and the Alaska Rifle
Club. Vic was a trustee in their church and he and Kathie were
counselors for the Junior and Senior High students.
Vic and Kathie moved to Fallon, Nevada in 1996 where Vic was
the Outside Plant Manager and was introduced to Rotary, and it
immediately became a household word. Within a few months he
became a member of Rotary Club of Fallon District 5190. He was
selected as Secretary and held that position for 4 years. Vic
remained on the board until he served as President 2003-04. He
has served chair of the local Wheelchair Foundation fund raiser,
and has successfully served as TRF chair for two years. At
District Conference 2005, Vic was awarded TRF District Service
Award. In 2006, Vic served as an Assistant Governor, went on an
NID to India and was the special representative for chartering
the Fernley Club. He is a multiple Paul Harris and member of the
Paul Harris Society.
Kathie became a Flight Attendant in 1981 and has been flying
ever since. Kathie's passion is the Arts and is the Board Chair
of Churchill Arts Council, which is transforming a once
condemned 1914 school building into a beautiful Arts Center in
Fallon. She is also a member of the Independent Telephone
Pioneers Association where she was a board member for 2 years.
Kathie is also a Paul Harris Fellow.
