Vicki Puliz -
District Governor Nominee - Rotary District 5190 (2011-2012)
Vicki
is a native Nevadan, raised on working cattle ranches north of
Reno and attending public school in Reno. After high school,
Vicki attended the University of Utah in Salt Lake City where
she earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing, ranked at the top
of her class, and a Masters of Business Administration before
returning to Reno.
Vicki's career started as a commercial lighting representative,
then to the electrical wholesale business and finally to
Electro-Tech, Inc. as a one third owner. Electro-Tech grew to
become a successful and respected electrical contractor
operating out of its main office in Sparks, Nevada. Vicki was
very involved in construction industry organizations such as
Associated Builders and Contractors and Construction Financial
Management Association, as well as serving on the board of the
Better Business Bureau.
Joining Sparks Rotary in 1992 as the first female member of the
club, Vicki enjoyed the association with business and community
leaders and making a positive difference in the community.
Raising two young children, along with major responsibilities of
a challenging business left little time of extra activities, but
the fellowship and positive interactions of the weekly meetings
encouraged Vicki to continue the Rotary journey.
After 15 years of operating Electro-Tech, Vicki and her partners
crafted a buy-sell agreement with IES, a publically traded
company. This afforded Vicki the opportunity to retire and spend
more time with growing children. Vicki became very involved with
Mountain View Montessori School during this time, as well as
with other youth sports activities and school groups.
Vicki served as president of Sparks Rotary in 2004-2005, the
Centennial Year of Rotary, and helped charter Sparks Centennial
Sunrise Rotary club.
Completing her year as club president, Vicki was recruited by
Joe Donohue to work with him to assume responsibility for the
District 5180/5190 RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards)
program. Joe and Vicki served as camp directors for RYLA during
the inaugural year at Grizzly Creek Ranch.
In addition to the RYLA program, Vicki also became involved in
the District Rotary Youth Exchange program as daughter, Kate,
prepared for a year abroad in Chile in 2007.
Vicki currently serves as District Chair for Youth Services/New
Generations Service from 2009 through 2012, working with
programs in our District for people under the age of 30,
including Rotaract, RYLA, Interact and RYE.
Along with Joe Donohue and Tina Spencer, Vicki helped create the
successful 8th grade program of high quality leadership training
with a strong emphasis on ethics known as Rotary Middle School
Leadership, which has expanded from Sparks, to virtually all of
the Washoe County School District and to rural communities of
Fernley and Yerington. The RMSL program is now extending to
other communities in our District, including the Nevada County
and Auburn area because of the significant positive impact on
young people at a critical point in their life.
Vicki and her husband Tim are blessed with a blended family of 7
children and 3 grandchildren, with 2 more grandchildren on the
way: Kyle (Wendi) Archuleta, Adam Puliz, Ryan Puliz, TJ (Leah)
Puliz, Amy (Scott) Jordan, J.D. Peters, and Kate Peters. Two of
their children, Amy Jordan of Camarillo, California and Ryan
Puliz of Reno, Nevada, are Rotarians.
Additional members of the family are three Rotary exchange
daughters: Camila Rubino of Araraquara, Brazil; Andrea Aviles
Ibarra of Yucatan, Mexico; and Bernardita Reyes of Santiago,
Chile.
In February 2009, Tim and Vicki joined other Rotarians from
around the world to participate in a "hands-on way"
with a National Immunization Day campaign in India to eradicate
polio.
Vicki is a member of the Paul Harris Society since 2005 and Tim
and Vicki are Major Donors to the Rotary Foundation. |
